Giovanni Boldini and the Myth of the Belle Époque Exhibition

Giovanni Boldini and the Myth of the Belle Époque Exhibition

The exhibition 'Giovanni Boldini and the Myth of the Belle Époque', which can be visited until 10 April 2023, arrives at Palazzo Mazzetti in Asti.

The artist had the ability to reproduce the social environment of the Parisian elite in which he lived and worked. On display are splendid female portraits immortalised in the rituals of life, in their elegant and frivolous dimension of an era that is a predecessor of modernity.

80 works are visible in the six thematic sections: The journey from Ferrara to Florence; Towards Paris; La Maison Goupil; The end of the relationship with Berthe; Gabrielle and the café chantants; The "breath of life" in the set portrait; Fin de siècle; Le nouveau siècle.

Boldini knew how to exalt female beauty, revealing its most intimate and mysterious soul, psychoanalysing his subjects and putting on canvas not just an image, but a real character.
