Exhibition Ottocento GAM

The exhibition OTTOCENTO is host by the The Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino (GAM), until April 11, 2023.

Landscape along with history and figure painting, central to the identity of Turin's nineteenth-century collection, are put on display in their freest and most experimental expressions.

The exhibition, curated by Riccardo Passoni and Virginia Bertone, counted 71 works including: paintings, pastels, large charcoal drawings, marble sculptures, delicate plaster casts and waxes.

Some of the paintings on display draw attention to social issues with a language that had been the subject of controversy and harsh judgments. The most daring of the paintings bears the title La femme de Claude: it depicts the drama of a young woman victimized by her husband's violence.
